Golf Solitaire is a popular single-player card game known for its simple rules and addictive gameplay. It takes its name from golf scoring: lower is better. Every card left on the tableau when the game ends counts against you, and many players string deals together into 9-round "courses" to chase a personal par.
The game begins with 35 cards dealt face-up across 7 columns of 5 cards each. One card is placed on the foundation pile, and the remaining 17 cards form the stock pile. Your goal is to clear all the tableau cards by moving them to the foundation.
A tableau card can be moved to the foundation if its rank is exactly one higher or one lower than the current foundation top card, regardless of suit. For example, if the foundation shows a 7, you can play a 6 or an 8. Kings are blockers - they cannot wrap to Aces.
When no tableau cards can be played, draw from the stock pile to get a new foundation card and continue. The game is won when all tableau cards are cleared, and lost when the stock is empty with no valid moves remaining.
Golf Solitaire is a game of both skill and luck. While the initial deal is random, strategic choices about which cards to play (when multiple options exist) can significantly improve your win rate.
